Brazil: China Moving In
According to the article, Chinese pesticide firms are lining up quickly to sell their products directly to farmers in Brazil by finding distribution partners in teh country. Already, four leading Chinese pesticide firms have speeded up the process of product registration in Brazil.
The Brazilian Agriculture Ministry revealed that 13 products, none of which is Chinese, had been approved in accordance with new laws on pesticide registrations. According to Brazil’s National Union of Industry of Products for Defense of Agriculture (SINDAG), the number of Chinese products approved and imported into Brazil has risen from 68 in 2000 to 117 in 2006, and Brazilian imports of Chinese pesticides have risen tenfold since 2000 to reach a value of US $14.2 million.
