China Approves Monsanto’s Roundup Ready 2 Yield Soybeans

Clearing the way for export to the US’s largest soybean purchaser, Monsanto Company’s Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans have received regulatory approval in China. China imports accounted for approximately 38% of US soybean exports in 2007. This approval for imports is a significant step forward in the eventual commercialization of the soybean technology.

As part of a controlled commercial release, Monsanto’s Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans will be introduced on 1 to 2 million acres for the 2009 season, followed by a large-scale product launch of five to six million acres scheduled for 2010.

Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans have been approved as safe for food and feed in the US, Canada, Mexico, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand and China nine countries that import more than 70% of US soybean exports.

Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans are the second generation of the company’s Roundup Ready technology used in soybeans since 1996. Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans offer the same effective weed control, simplicity and flexibility benefits of the Roundup Ready system while significantly increases soybean yield potential, reports Monsanto’s press release.
