China: Ministry Estimates Record 2006 Cotton Production
China’s Ministry of Agriculture estimates that 2006 cotton production would reach 6.73 million metric tons (MMT) based on average yields of 1.245 kilograms per hectare (kg/Ha), both of which would set new records for the country’s growers.
Sun Zhengcai, current Party Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture (soon to be named Minister, according to reports) said in an official release on December 25 that this increase in cotton production is in addition to the estimated bumper harvest for grain in 2006.
