Colombia OKs Two Biotech Crops

The country’s Ministry of Agriculture stated that two more GM maize lines would be approved within three months. The expected approvals were for Monsanto’s Roundup Ready maize and Syngenta’s insect-resistant Bt11 corn, though Syngenta’s corn variety has not yet received approval.

The “semi-commercial phase” of biotech rice, sugarcane, roses, and coffee is to be rolled out this year, and full commercial approval of the biotech varieties is planned for next year, the Ministry added.
