Continuous Corn Most Profitable
According to field studies conducted throughout Illinois from 2004 to 2006 by the Pioneer Crop Management Research Awards (CMRA) Program at the University of Illinois, there are definite profitability benefits to switching from a corn-soybean-corn rotation. In this study, which took place in six different soil-climate areas in Illinois, determined that the least yield loss occurred with the continuous corn sequence, followed by a corn-corn-soybean rotation. The traditional corn-soybean-corn rotation came in last. Despite the range of environmental factors, yield effects of the three rotations differed very little between locations.
