Cotton Board Estimates Higher Cotton Crop In India
The Cotton Advisory Board estimated a higher cotton crop of 32.2 million bales (170 kg) for the upcoming 2008/09 season, up 2% over the previous year crop of 31.5 million bales, reported the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service. The total area is estimated at 9.26 million hectares, slightly lower than 9.56 million hectares in 2007/08 season due to a shift to other crops in some areas. Total cotton exports are forecast lower at 7.5 million bales for the upcoming season compared to 8.5 million bales last season.
