CSIR-IICT, in collaboration with PMFAI and Indian industries, has developed many Technical Grade pesticides and intermediates for which Indian industries were dependent on complete imports. IICT has also played a leading role in developing synthetic pyrethroids. Today, India is one of the leading manufacturers and exporters of synthetic pyrethroids in the world with products like Deltamethrin, Cypermethrin, Fenvalarate, Bifenthrin, and Permethrin.

The association has contributed to the growth of Indian pesticide industry to become fourth largest producer of pesticides in the world after the U.S., Japan, and China, with an approximate market size of Rs.73,000 crores. Presently, India exports about Rs.38,000 crores worth of pesticides to global markets, almost 90% of which is by Indian companies. This achievement has been made possible with lots of efforts by PMFAI and Indian industries with active support from Government and various research institutions, in which CSIR-IICT has played a key role.
