Dow Gets Two US Insecticide Registrations

The new active ingredient spinetoram has shown “excellent broad-spectrum insect control in fruit and vegetable crops,” says the company, and adds that the active provides apple growers with a new mode of action for the control of codling moth, as well as other internal feeding lepidoptera.

Registered under the EPA’s Reduced Risk Pesticide Initiative, spinetoram maintains populations of most key beneficial insects without flaring mites. Spinetoram also is effective at low use rates and is less persistent in the environment compared with older compounds, Dow says.

“We’re excited to be able to fulfill the fruit and vegetable producer’s desire for newer insect control products that meet the principles of Integrated Pest Management,” says Lee Conway, marketing specialist for Dow AgroSciences. “Spinetoram also carries many other favorable features for growers, including class-leading re-entry and preharvest intervals and minimal personal protective equipment requirements, making it a convenient, easy-to-use tool for growers.”
