EU Sets Phase-Outs For Six Insecticides
The decision affects five organophosphate insecticides (diazinon, dichlorvos, fenitrothion, malathion, and oxydemeton-methyl) and one carbamate insecticide (thiodicarb).
EU member states must now withdraw approvals for the products between now and the end of the year. The specific dates are:
- November 21: oxydemeton-methyl;
- November 25: fenitrothion and thiodicarb;
- December 6: diazinon, dichlorvos, and malathion.
Periods permitted for the sale and use of existing stocks must be complete within a year from the withdrawal dates.
