Fighting At Syngenta Brazil Leaves Two Dead
29 October 2007 The company instructed the security firm not to oppose the Via Campesina members’ entry, and it “vehemently denies all allegations” that it told the security firm to use armed force to reclaim the site.
One member of Via Campesina and one of the security personnel died following the confrontation, while eight others were injured. No Syngenta staff were involved, and police are investigating the incident.
Syngenta has sent its condolences to bereaved family and friends and is “profoundly shocked and saddened” by the events.
