Getting Around Glasgow
One big help is the free shuttle service that BCPC has brought back again this year. The buses make stops at each major hotel and the SECC, and they run frequently. For a map of the hotels served by the shuttle, you can check out the Conference web site here
and click on “Hotels” in the left-hand menu.
But we know as well as anyone how tight time can be, especially when an appointment runs long, and it’s not always possible to plan for the 30- to 45-minute gap between calls. If you do run late to an appointment, don’t forget to call your next appointment and let them know – several meetings have been missed because of miscommunication and assumed no-shows (or because the person waiting also had a meeting to get to on the other side of town, and simply couldn’t wait). Either way, if you know that a meeting will be difficult to reach in time, it is better to call and reschedule than to make the trip and find out that your appointment has already left.
A note on the cabs: at certain times, especially as the final seminar ends for the day and the exhibition floor closes, the queues can get pretty long. If your group is not one of the first out the door, it might be a good idea to sit down and have a drink at the Crowne Plaza (formerly the Moat House), or just sit down and relax for a few minutes before leaving the SECC. If you’re like me, you’d rather be waiting comfortably inside than standing in a line outside.
Also, don’t be afraid to split a cab or two. If you see someone waiting for a ride wearing a BCPC badge, it’s worth the time to ask where they are going, and to offer to share the cab and the fare if you’re going the same way. After all, we’re all in this thing together.
