India Calls For Ag-Chem Data, Label Changes

Changes include:

  • Atrazine herbicides require a label statement that they are to be used with caution when ground water levels are high. Field studies on the effects on aquatic organisms and the extent of leaching must be carried out.
  • Carbendazim fungicide labels require a statement that pregnant women should avoid contact with carbendazim-based products.
  • The insecticide monocrotophos must be studied to prove that there are no endocrine concerns in Indian conditions.
  • Labels and leaflets for the herbicides, butachlor and pendimethalin and the insecticide quinalphos must carry a warning that they are not to be used where aquaculture is practiced alongside rice cultivation. Aquatic organism impact studies are required for the three a.i.s, and for quinalphos, a neurotoxic study is also required.
  • Mancozeb fungicide producers must demonstrate the health of manufacturing workers. The Ministry has said that the ETU (ethylenethiourea) content of mancozeb tech. and formulations should not exceed 0.5%.
  • Dichlorvos insecticide manufacturers must monitor exposure levels in production facilities to see that they fall below the maximum of 1 mg dichlorvos per cubic meter of air.
