Injunction Hearing Scheduled For Roundup Ready Alfalfa Seed

The judge in the February decision ruled that proper procedures in evaluating potential environmental effects of RR alfalfa were not followed by the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). Although international regulatory agencies worldwide such as Canada and Japan confirmed RR alfalfa’s environmental safety, and Monsanto provided USDA extensive environmental, stewardship, and crop management information, the company will still have to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement as a result of the temporary injunction.

Monsanto Company, Forage Genetics International, and several farmers have been granted status in this case as arbitrators and will give oral arguments on the preliminary injunction in April.
