Pakistan: Bt Cotton For 2009
Pakistan’s Food and Agriculture Minister Nazar Muhammad Gondal said that government approval for Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) cotton will be formally introduced in the country next year, according to an article on checkbiotech.org.
In other areas, following debate in Pakistan’s National Assembly, Gondal said that the sugar mills had paid most of the dues to sugarcane growers, and that the government was working on war footing to control the wheat shortage.
Pakistan had already decided to import 5 million tons of wheat, which would have a positive impact on the local market within one and a half months, he maintained.
