PPI Expands To Become IPNI
IPNI is expected to be fully operational on Jan. 1, 2007, and immediately will have effective scientific programs in place in North, Central, and South America, China, India, and Southeast Asia. Programs in Western and Eastern Europe, along with the Middle East, are expected to be started soon after.
"The purpose is to help provide a coordinated scientific foundation for fertilizer nutrient use and to scientifically address associated environmental issues," explains William J. Doyle, PPI chairman and president and CEO of PotashCorp. "The new organization will be composed of fertilizer industry companies that are basic producers of nitrogen (N), and/or phosphate (P), and/or potash (K), and/or sulfur (S) for agricultural use," he says. "Large retail organizations that will not qualify as basic producers of N, P, K, or S may qualify as associate members."
Dr. Terry Roberts of Norcross, Georgia, US will serve as IPNI’s first president. Dr. Paul Fixen of Brookings, South Dakota, US, will be coordinator, Americas Group, and Dr. Adrian Johnston of Saskatoon, Saskatoon, Canada will serve as coordinator, Asia Group.
The founding members of IPNI include Agrium Inc., Arab Potash Co., Belarusian Potash Co., Bunge Fertilizantes S.A., CF Industries Holding, Inc., Intrepid Mining, LLC, K+S KALI GmbH, Mosaic, PotashCorp, Saskferco, Simplot, Sinochem Hong Kong Ltd., Spur Ventures Inc., SQM, Terra Industries Inc., and Uralkali.
