Six A.I.s Re-Registered In EU

Member States will have until the end of March 2008 to ensure that registered products containing these a.i.s are compatible with the conditions of the products’ Annex I listings.

In addition, further studies are required for glufosinate-aluminum (risk assessment for mammals and non-target organisms in orchards), dimethoate (risk assessments for birds, mammals, and non-target arthropods; toxicological assessment of metabolites), phosmet (acute risk for birds and long-term risk for herbivores), and metribuzin (risk assessment for groundwater). These are to be finalized by October 2009. The following conditions were set for the products:

  • Glufosinate-ammonium registrations will require risk mitigation to protect users, groundwater, and non-target organisms.
  • Metribuzin registrations require Member States to ensure the protection of algae and aquatic plants as well as user safety and non-target plants.
  • Dimethoate and phosmet registrations require protection for birds, animals, and aquatic organisms, as well as ground water. Dietary exposure also will need to be scrutinized for dimethoate.
  • Dimethomorph and propamocarb registrations will require user safety and animal and plant protective measures. For propamocarb, surface and groundwater protection and soil residues will also need to be monitored.
