Spanish Environmental Police Seize Illegal Ag-Chems

An ECPA release stated that the detainees “are accused of crimes against public health and infringement of Intellectual Property Rights.” The suspects allegedly are part of a network of pesticide trafficking operating in the southwest of Spain.

The illegal pesticide isofenphos-methyl was found on exported Spanish peppers throughout Europe earlier this year, after which Seprona has seized about 4,000 kg of illegal pesticides.

Rocky Rowe, anti-counterfeit project manager for ECPA, congratulated the Don Limpio operation, but added that more attention to the problem is necessary. “The fight against the growing problem of illegal pesticides urgently needs to be intensified and requires increased political attention, as well as human and financial resources. Those responsible and affected need to lead – governments, farmers, the food value chain, international and European organisations, and the plant protection industry,” Rowe said.
