Turkey: Drought, Heat Hamper Production

Grain production was significantly reduced in the Aegean, Thrace, and Central Anatolia regions – Central Antolia produces more than any other region in the country. The Wheat Belt between Ankara and Konya was greatly affected, and water rationing has been introduced in the capital, Ankara.

Wheat and barley production estimates are expected to be significantly lower, with lower wheat quality, also due to the drought. The first corn harvest will be begin soon, and the outlook is close to normal, though concerns remain about the second crop of corn that will be harvested in late October and November.
