U.S.: “Green” Home Textiles Growing By Double Digits
Sales in organic and environmentally-friendly home textiles have experienced double-digit annual growth, according to a report from market researchers SBI. The publisher also predicts the strong growth to continue through 2010.
The U.S. market for organic and “eco-friendly” home textiles is expected to grow 40% between 2007 and 2010 in the U.S., the report states. Global sales for organic cotton products are expected to increase from $1.1 billion (USD) in 2006 to $6.8 billion in 2010.
Major retailers including Target, Ralph Lauren Home and Bed Bath & Beyond have brought increased attention to “green” products.
The report also states that while the organic industry is growing, marketers must educate consumers that environmentally-friendly household linens are available to optimize their uptake.
“Home textile suppliers are addressing consumers’ environmental concerns by venturing beyond organics to offer other, more readily available, more affordable eco-friendly options,” said Tatjana Meerman, Publisher of SBI.
