UPL Aquires Advanta Seed
21 February 2006 Advanta, a supplier of seed and seed technologies, becomes UPL’s first venture into the seed industry.
“The acquisition of Advanta allows UPL to jump-start our entry in the high end of the seeds business, where we believe the future of agriculture growth lies,” said Jai Shroff, executive director of UPL.
Advanta, established in 1996 through the merger of Royal Vanderhave Group and Zeneca Seeds, has corporate roots going back to the 19th century. The company’s key strengths are in row crops such as maize. Advanta runs operations in Australia, Asia, and South America.
UPL is one of the largest agrochemical companies in India, and one of the world’s largest generic chemical manufacturers.
