US: Biotech Corn, Soy Areas Up
In all, approximately 73% of the US corn crop has been planted with GM varieties, vs. 61% last year. The proportion of stacked trait maize — which contains both insect protection and herbicide resistance genes — rose from 15% in 2006 to 28% this year.
The proportion of the US soybean crop planted with GM varieties has also risen, going from 89% in 2006 to 91% this year.
