What EU Certification Means for Biorizon Biotech’s Line of Biostimulants

The EU is leading the transformation of the fruit and vegetable sector towards a healthier, sustainable agriculture that avoids the use of chemical additives. As part of its roadmap, the new EU regulation 2019/1009 allows certification for products that manage to exceed the high standards required by the regulation.

For the first time, this regulation makes it possible to register products that comply with the strict criteria of the studies and field tests in the official category of biostimulants with different levels of certification for each individual crop.

Biorizon Biotech is 100% focused on providing effective bio-based products in which microalgae solutions are its distinguishing feature. Biorizon Biotech now has the most products to receive official European Certification (four), according to the company, placing it at the forefront of regenerative agriculture with a new breed of products that will transform the sector in the coming years.

These products have also reached the highest rank of certification for use on crops, consistently demonstrating their efficacy through numerous studies. As a result, the quality, guarantee and safety of the products are all certified by the EU. The products include:

  • Algafert Eco is a comprehensive biostimulant, capable of intensifying the predominant phenological stage in the crop, especially related to productivity and able to regenerate tissues damaged by different stress situations.
  • Biofat600 is specially designed to promote cell division, which results in a better caliber and homogeneity during production, together with an improvement in the efficiency of calcium absorption, which leads to better firmness and postharvest qualities.
  • Biopower ECO promotes root development, with more absorbent hairs, thus improving water and nutrient absorption.
  • Photopower improves fertilization by stimulating the efficiency of photosynthesis and, therefore, the production of photoassimilates.

Together they form an effective toolbox for farmers to obtain higher crop yields and for consumers to have access to healthier food by replacing traditional chemical components. Both objectives are at the heart of the European “farm to fork” strategy along with the European Green Deal.

This European Certification also provides a great support to Biorizon Biotech’s internationalization strategy, as its official status allows the direct marketing of these products in the 27 countries that make up the European Community and will soon be available in third countries where the EU is in the process of reaching agreements for the validity of its certifications.

Achieving this milestone has required the company to make a concerted effort in terms of time and economic resources, given the stringent demands for obtaining the certification. The numerous field studies confirming the benefits of these products have been performed by external companies approved by the EU. In Spain, CAAE is the designated certifier and is responsible for reviewing and certifying the validity of the field studies, carried out by the prestigious company Ideagro, which is licensed to conduct officially tests recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food “MAPA” and is a national reference laboratory for the FAO.

In order to obtain the official EU certifications, Biorizon Biotech has been ably advised by Sun Chemical Service, specialists in the certification of fertilizers, biostimulants and biopesticides at an international level.
