E U R O F I N S — EU’s Rejection of Sustainable Use Regulation Creates New Challenges for Crop Input Providers
Scroll Down to Read
What is the biggest opportunity in 2024? How will this impact the industry as a whole?
A major focus of global food production will be characterized by sustainable agricultural practices.
The recent advance of novel approaches to farming, protecting crops, and harvest in particular, provides agricultural input companies with new opportunities to create products and solutions that enable sustainable farming.
Eurofins Agroscience Services started to build capabilities in this area early on and is now in a strong position to support innovators in evaluating these new technologies and generate the required regulatory packages.
In Europe, the rejection of the Sustainable Use Regulation represents a major deviation from the previously foreseen path forward. The most significant implication is that the goal to cut use of agrochemicals by half has not been translated into legislation. It is yet unclear how agricultural input providers will adapt their strategies to this new reality. For Contract Research Organizations this will require even more flexibility and ability to adapt than before.
What are some new product launches or major developments within your company?
We are currently witnessing a tremendous technology revolution in the agricultural space, and with that, traditional research and innovation (R&I) patterns are being disrupted.
One of the most significant changes sees a shift toward the importance of start-ups, seeing this sector taking market priority in the R&I agricultural space.
Eurofins Agroscience Services has developed a novel business model that fits this new R&I eco-system. Our “R&D Start-up Platform” enables start-ups to advance innovation based on the know-how, infrastructure, and capabilities of our group in a very flexible and efficient manner, providing bespoke registration services to ensure regulatory acceptance. We draw on the size and diversity of our network of laboratories and field stations to cover the variety of technological options that innovators currently pursue.
In addition, we work with the seed industry to accelerate the introduction of new traits with our unique “Seeds Solutions,” combining field and testing capabilities for trait introgression and plant health, as well as new seed processing and treatment capabilities.
With this contribution to innovation, we aim to shape and accelerate the future of sustainable agriculture.
