Carribean Chemicals Opens Dominican Republic Office

Caribbean Chemicals & Agencies Limited (CCAL) has announced the opening of the Caribbean Chemicals office in the Dominican Republic (CC DR), based in the central city of Santiago. With the establishment of CC DR, the company has completed its goal of becoming a regional distributor in providing agricultural solutions to farmers throughout the Caribbean Region including all English, Dutch, French and Spanish territories.

CCAL headquarters and southern distribution hub remains in Trinidad as it continue to service the Caribbean market with its additional offices located in Guyana, Suriname, and Jamaica. The Jamaica office is not only CCAL’s northern distribution hub but also incorporates a formulating plant where it manufacturers more than 22 products.

CC DR represents many of the major suppliers in the agrochemicals industry, including Excel Ag, Miller Chemicals, OMEX, Elixir, Jacto, Namdhari, and Agafert, and will offer farmers a complete range of solutions for all crops currently grown in the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic pesticide market is the largest in the Caribbean (approx. US$100 million/ year) and our intention is to become a major player in this market in a short time.

In addition, CC DR has appointed Cesar Hilario as General Manager and Luis Nunez as its Sales Manager. Hilario has a master’s in business administration with a major in Finance and Economics and a second masters in international agribusiness management from INCAE Business School and CATIE, Costa Rica. He also holds a B.S. in agronomic engineering from the Universidad ISA, Dominican Republic. Hilario has extensive experience in the private and public sector. In the private sector he was the financial and treasury of a bank for seven years and advisor to agribusiness companies. In the public sector he worked as the financial director of an agricultural bank and head of the vice ministry of administration and finance in the ministry of agriculture. He is also a professor of finance in PUCMM and Universidad ISA, two schools in the Dominican Republic.

Nunez has a B.S. in agronomic engineering with a specialization in crop production with additional study focused on Crop Fertilization, Pest and Disease Management, as well as Pesticide Management. His expertise lies in Rice Cultivation. Nunez has considerable experience in sales, client management, and marketing with multinational organizations (including BASF & Syngenta) who are leaders in the industry and has served both domestic and international markets. Luis in his last post significantly grew the company’s sales and his significant knowledge of the DR market will be an asset to CC DR and CCAl.
