China Reports Sharp Drop in Paraquat Prices

The China Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA) reported that paraquat TK prices plummeted 16% in January from the previous month, continuing a slide that began in the fourth quarter of 2014.

“It’s estimated that the downward trend was caused by the depressed market of pyridine, one of the main raw materials of paraquat,” CCPIA stated.

With nine manufacturers operating in January, both output and sales volume were essentially flat with the previous month.

Before China’s Spring Festival holiday, paraquat manufacturers were mostly in “wait-and-see status,” CCPIA said, adding that it expects the quoted price of paraquat will keep going down. However, when the peak use season approaches, demand could increase sharply, bringing up the price, it said.
