Concerns Over Mosquito-Bourne Disease Could Boost U.S. Insecticide Market

The sudden appearance and growing concern over mosquitoes transmitting the Zika virus and other diseases could create an opportunity for increased use of insecticides by mosquito control districts in the U.S., which have seen slow growth over the past few years, according to a new report from Kline.

“Larvicides, insecticide products that are applied to control mosquito larvae in their aquatic breeding sites, showed the highest growth at approximately 3% a year since 2012,” Kline reported. “The strongest growth stems from products demonstrating a favorable environmental profile, such as those based on Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti), Bacillus sphaericus (Bs), and spinosad.”
