Indian Cotton Growers Protest Government Inaction on Whitefly Invasion

Farmers in Sirsa, the largest cotton growing district in the Indian sate of Haryana, have taken to the streets to complain about the government’s lack of action following a whitefly problem that has devastated many of their crops.

In a report from The Times of India, first gathered at Chaudhary Devi Lal Park  and then “Farmers later took out a protest march to deputy commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum demanding special survey for their crop destroyed by whitefly,” the article said.

The farmers were concerned that the government has not performed a special assessment for crop damage and were asking for compensation for their losses.
