Godrej Agrovet Launches New Pesticide Hanabi for Apple Farmers in India

Godrej Agrovet Limited has unveiled a new pesticide called Hanabi (Pyridaben 20% w/w WP), specifically designed to combat mites in apple orchards. Developed in collaboration with Japan’s Nissan Chemical Corporation, Hanabi uses a patented chemistry that offers extended control duration and rapid knockdown effects.

Rajavelu NK, CEO of Godrej Agrovet Limited’s Crop Protection Business, highlighted the benefits and effectiveness of Hanabi. He stated, “In Kashmir, where the annual export of 1.8 million metric tons of apples sustains livelihoods and contributes to 75% of India’s apple production, we recognize the profound impact of our agricultural practices. While we cannot control abiotic climatic challenges, the introduction of Hanabi reflects our dedication to addressing biotic factors that pose a threat to this flourishing industry.”

“By safeguarding apple crops and eradicating mites throughout their life cycle, Hanabi’s fast-acting formula initiates immediate action after application. Delivering an 80% knockdown rate within 3-4 hours, Hanabi proves to be a reliable and efficient pest control solution. Furthermore, its insecticidal properties have demonstrated secondary efficacy against thrips and whiteflies. We are confident that this innovative solution will revolutionize apple farming in the valley,” he added.

To achieve optimal outcomes, it is recommended to use Hanabi at the early stage of mite infestation. The first application should consist of 0.5 grams per liter of water when the mite population reaches 3-5 mites per leaf, as mentioned in the statement.
