Brazil’s main agricultural entity representing the country’s farmers opened a new office in Beijing today, as it moves to strengthen bilateral trade ties with China.

The Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock, known as CNA, said Brazil intends to “consolidate the existing trade between the two countries and expand sales of Brazilian agricultural products for the Chinese market, where demand for food is growing.” The targeted product is, of course, Brazilian beef, but another chief goal is to attract Chinese investment for the country’s infrastructure, namely transportation logistics and storage.

From Beijing, CNA will also seek out commercial opportunities in other regional markets.

A delegation led by CNA President Kátia Abreu with representatives of the China Development Bank also met to address investments in Brazil. CNA officials will soon meet with China’s Ministry of Agriculture of China to visit Brazil, CNA said.

CNA also met with a retailer association to discuss how to improve trade relations through bringing together Brazilian suppliers and Chinese importers.

CNA represents 27 state Federations, 2,142 farm unions and more than 1 million producers in Brazil.
