Makhteshim Agan To Base Indian Operations In Hyderabad

The world’s top generic agrochemical producer, Israel-based Makhteshim-Agan, will expand into India with a base in Hyderabad, according to The Economic Times. The company plans to invest more than US $919 million in the coming years, generating direct and indirect employment for over 2,000 people, it said.

“The company wants the Indian farmers to get the maximum benefit of the largest variety of crop protection products available in the global market place. It endeavours to cut several tiers in the supply chain of the product line to make the farmer the biggest beneficiary,” said the company. Makhteshim Agan has already recruited 300 professionals from various fields and established a wide retail customer base and warehouse network, it said.

A visiting Israeli team will meet with Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy to discuss the plans. The team from Makhteshim Agan includes Mark Sofer, the Ambassador of Israel, and Makhteshim-Agan Group Chairman Avraham Bigger.
