Rainbow Obtains Patent for 2, 4-D Salt WG
10 June 2013 Shangdong Weifang Rainbow Chemical Co., Ltd. announced it received approval for a 2, 4-D Salt WG formulation patent. The patent was granted to the Chinese company by SIPO (State Intellectual Property Office).
Rainbow says the new formulation method is simpler and more eco-friendly than previously used methods. According to the company, there is no involvement of hazardous chemical substances such as organic solvent, no discharge of the waste water and no generation of dust. This process aligns itself well with Rainbow’s goals of being safer, greener and cleaner.
The final 2, 4-D product is highly concentrated, reaching up to 96% calculated by salt. According to the company, the method greatly decreases the cost of packaging, transportation and storage. The formulation also solves the problems encountered by other formulations such as the EC, which is said to cause pollution, SL which tends to drift into the field, and other formulations which Rainbow said in their statement can delaminate, decompose, precipitate or crystallize after long-term storage.
In addition to the advantages of eco-friendly production, high concentration, low-cost transportation and storage, and convenient usage, Rainbow says the new formulation also mixes well with other herbicides such as glyphosate, dicamba and atrazine.
