China: Traceability System To Launch

China plans to adopt a traceability system for agricultural products in an attempt to improve its farm product safety and instill greater trust in its agricultural products, according to the China Food Newspaper.

The announcement was made at the third Central China Investment and Trade Expo held recently in Wuhan, China. Pilot programs were launched last year in Wuhan, Shanghai, and Nanjing for meat, fruit and vegetable, and fishery products.

The system is intended to allow consumers to find information about product origins, production, processing, packaging, and inspection.
