Corteva Agriscience Inaugurates Seed Treatment Technology Center in Latin America

Corteva Agriscience inaugurated the Seed Treatment Technology Center (CSAT) in Formosa, Brazil, the first such center in Latin America and the second in the world. The site was designed with advanced equipment to perform various tests that will ensure the quality of the treatment applied to the seed, offering a greater guarantee and safety to the Brazilian rural producer. The service provided by CSAT will be geared to the seed brands, Brevant and Pioneer, as well as partner multipliers.

“This is the first fruit of the new history since Corteva’s independence in June this year, and is part of our commitment to further establish our roots in Brazil. The Seed Treatment Technology Center integrates the company’s US$90 million investment package into seven plants to increase our production capacity and develop new solutions,” said Corteva Agriscience President, Roberto Hun. “The seed segment is of fundamental importance to the company, which accounts for 56% of our global revenue,” he added.

The Seed Treatment Technology Center is another chapter in the company’s strategy to expand and strengthen its operations in the segment. A few months ago, Corteva launched the Cordius seed brand for partner multipliers, which was added to the Brevant and Pioneer brands aimed directly at farmers. “We are offering the most complete package of solutions, including the development of the best hybrids, our Brevant and Pioneer trademarks, and now the best seed treatment process that the producer and partner multipliers can have at their disposal,” said Christian Pflug, leader of Latin America Seed Treatment at Corteva Agriscience.

Innovations in biotechnology and industrial seed treatments allow for much safer planting and management as they ensure the accuracy of the application dose, improved field performance and increased productivity. In this sense, the analysis conducted by the CSAT will be as follows:

  1. Compatibility test to evaluate the quality of the recipe used.
  2. Visual test that observes the proper seed coating.
  3. Abrasion and dust-off test to evaluate the adhesion of seeds to the treatment.
  4. Seed safety / shelf-life test that checks how long seeds can be stored and their quality in relation to germination and vigor.
  5. Fluidity and plantability test to analyze if seeds germinate effectively.
  6. Uptake test that evaluates the absorption of products for effective pest and disease control.
  7. Loading test that checks the amount of assets present in the seeds.

Located in a strategic region, serving the main cities of Brazil, which produce grain, the Formosa Seed Treatment Technology Center is part of a global Corteva network and will support all the Latin American countries.
