Russian 2009 Grain Forecast Decreases

Total Russian grain production in marketing year 2009 is forecast to decrease by 13 million metric tons (MMT) to 95 MMT, according to US Department of Agriculture Foreign Agriculture Service. The Global Agriculture Information Network report says that the decrease is due to a slight reduction in sown area and lower spring yields. Grain imports will be less than 1 MMT, while grain exports may reach 20 MMT. Feed grain consumption will increase by 3.5% to 41 MMT. Grain carry-over stocks by the end of the year are forecast at 16 MMT.
