Monsanto Drought-Tolerant Corn In 2010

US-based Monsanto Corp. has submitted a genetically modified (GM) corn, which was created in collaboration with the Germany-based plant biotechnology specialist BASF, to the Food and Drug Administration for regulatory clearance. Monsanto says the corn, which will "reset the bar" in farming productivity, has moved to the fourth and final stage of development and could reach commercial usage within two years.

Monsanto said trials of its corn conducted last year in the drought-prone US midwest "met or exceeded the 6% to 10% target yield enhancement."
