ECPA Launches Anti-Counterfeit Program

Roger Doig of DuPont UK was quick to point out that the program is not an effort put forth by the discovery-based companies to put down competition. According to Doig, patent violation is an even greater threat for legitimate small and medium-sized companies as it is for the six global R&D based companies. “Many of these companies may only have three of four registered products, so the effect on them if one of their products faces illegal competition is proportionately greater,” he said.

Rocky Rowe of ECPA was on-hand at BCPC to discuss the ramifactions of illegal trade in crop protection markets and to spread the word about the new program. ECPA has called for the national authorities and the European Commission to improve enforcement of the law and to prevent abuse of the rules, and it called upon the supply chain to use only registered products and to report incidences of illegal products being offered for sale.
